The Mechanical Properties Cranial Bone
نویسندگان
چکیده
Linear and depressed skull fractures are frequent mechanisms of head injury and are often associated with traumatic brain injury. Accurate knowledge of the fracture of cranial bone can provide insight into the prevention of skull fracture injuries. A set of cranial bone specimens were extracted from 8 crania and, after !CT imaging, the specimens were tested in a three-point bend set-up at dynamic speeds. Important mechanical and morphological properties were calculated for each specimen. The correlations between those parameters were examined statistically. Testing speed, strain rate, cranial sampling position and intercranial variation were found to have a significant effect on some or all of the computed mechanical parameters.

Variability of Child Rib Bone Hounsfield Units using in vivo Computed Tomography
The variability assessment of the rib bone mechanical properties during the growth process is still missing. These properties could not be obtained in vivo on children. Relationships have been obtained between Hounsfield Units from computed tomography (CT) and mechanical properties (e.g. for the cortical bone on adults). As a first step for investigation of the mechanical propertie...

The mechanical properties of the adult human skull are well documented, but little information is available for the infant skull. To determine the age-dependent changes in skull properties, we tested human and porcine infant cranial bone in three-point bending. The measurement of elastic modulus in the human and porcine infant cranial bone agrees with and extends previous published data [McPher...
متن کاملMechanical Properties of Cranial Bones and Sutures in 1–2-Year-Old Infants
BACKGROUND The mechanical properties of 1-2-year-old pediatric cranial bones and sutures and their influential factors were studied to better understand how the pediatric calvarium reacts to loading. MATERIAL AND METHODS Cranial bone and suture specimens were extracted from seven fresh-frozen human infant cadavers (1.5±0.5 years old). Eight specimens were obtained from each subject: two front...
